King’s Cross & The Regents Canal
Come and meet our expert Blue Badge guide at
10.30am at Kings Place, a new cultural hub for
King’s Cross: a mini Royal Festival Hall housed in
an award winning building on the Regents Canal
shared with the HQ of The Guardian and Observer
newspapers. You can buy morning refreshments here
to enjoy inside or out on the terrace overlooking the
canal before we step across the road into a whole
new world! We are going to show you the heart and
soul of this 67 acre site and without walking you too
far you will get a real feel for the past, present and
future of a brand new district for London created on
the site of the Great Northern Goods Yard behind the
iconic St Pancras and King’s Cross railway stations.
You’ll stand at an impressive crossing point for the
old and the new where the Victorian Granary Build-
ing is grafted seamlessly and beautifully to a brand
new building that house Central Saint Martin College
of Arts & Design. Ghostly imprints of the past have
been deliberately preserved in homage to the
industrial heritage of King’s Cross - it’s fascinating.
You’ll get a
really good
overview of the
site when we
stop by the
interactive
model of the site
and be able to
pick up maps
and leaflets to take home from the Visitors Centre.
See the special platform built for Queen Victoria to
arrive at King’s Cross Station before the main termi-
nal was built, London’s newest square created where
barges once unloaded their goods from the Regents
Canal, the coal drops and the Fish & Coal building.
All around you a new neighbourhood for the capital is
being created - the project is scheduled for completion
in 2022! We’ll walk along the new King’s Boulevard
to Kings’ Cross Station for a quick peek at the quite
