The afternoon is dedicated to Greater London’s only
specialist College of Horticulture, Floristry, Garden
Design, Arboriculture, Animal Care and Countryside
Studies. The gardens at Capel Manor form a scented
oasis surrounding a Georgian Manor House and
Victorian Stables and include various themes -
historical, modern, walled, rock, water, sensory and
disabled. In addition there is an Italianate Maze,
a Japanese Garden and the “Gardening Which?”
demonstration and model gardens. It is like going to
a garden show but without all the hustle and bustle.
These richly planted gardens are delightful at any
time of the year and are great for taking away fresh
and practical ideas for your own garden. There’s a
café on site for tea before heading home at 4-45pm.
Other than the steps at the hunting lodge which are
plenty but shallow with stops along the way to view
things of interest there is little walking in the
morning and it is entirely up to individuals how
much walking they’d like to do during the afternoon
visit to Capel Manor Gardens.
This tour is available Wednesdays to Sundays
from March to the end of October.
