to have your group as it’s always much more fun for them
guiding a British group. There’s no limit on your group
size, they will divide you up between guides but you will
all set off and finish at approximately the same time.
Make sure you give yourself plenty of time to get through
the airport style security ahead of your tour. The tour will
finish in Westminster Hall which is the oldest and most
historic part of the Palace of Westminster, you can stay
here as along as you like, it’s near the café and certainly
people will want some time to enjoy it without having to
run hell-for-leather back out to meet the coach. You can
take your mobile phone but of course it must be switched
off. Cameras can only be used in Westminster Hall,
where if you visit in 2013 you’ll see the new Diamond
Jubilee window.

Making a Day Of It
An ideal plan would be to arrive at 10.30am having
booked a tour to start at 11.30am, giving you plenty of
time for security, to spend a penny and to buy morning
coffee before the tour. This would have you finishing at
approximately 12.45pm. Stay for a pasty or sandwich
lunch or walk across Parliament Square to the café in the
basement of Westminster Central Hall where there is more
of a choice for lunch.
For the afternoon you could take the opportunity to enjoy
one of London’s free art galleries or museums. Or you
could walk along Whitehall to visit the Cabinet War
Rooms. Group rate for ten or more people from 1 January
2013 is adults £12.35 and seniors £10.80 and you can
easily spend an afternoon here. After your visit use the
pubs and cafés along Whitehall to free-range for tea before
setting off for home ahead of the rush hour.
The Liars Tour!
As you are on your feet for a morning tour of the Houses
of Parliament some groups looking to make a day of
it might prefer to have a non walking option for the
afternoon. If your folk would enjoy a bit of mischievous
devilment they’d love our Liars Tour!
Our Blue Badge Guide can meet you outside Parliament
or the Westminster Central Hall at 2.30pm. This is a
coach based true or false quiz tour with a difference.
You don’t have to know anything, remember anything
or write anything down. If you are the local pub quiz
champion or even a Mastermind winner it won’t help.
If you don’t know the first thing about anything that is not
going to be any handicap. We are going to take you on an
entertaining guided tour winding our way through districts
both well known and off the beaten track. The guide will
tell you a number of stories, they are funny and a little bit
quirky but not all of them are true! All you have to do is
decide if the guide is telling you the truth or making it up!
The coach tour is a very entertaining 90-minutes at the end
of which each person is given a simple quiz sheet with a
short reminder of each of the stories you’ve heard. All you
have to do is tick true or false. It’s as easy as filling in a
lottery ticket. We stop at a pub where you can buy a cup
of tea or a bar drink while the guide tots up the scores and
runs through the answers and announces the winner who
is awarded with a prize!
It’s great fun, very unusual and tongue in cheek and
balances a visit to Parliament beautifully. The tour costs
£8.95 per person right though to the end of March 2014.
If you start at 2.30pm you’ll be ready to head home by
4.45pm. The Liars Tour is also available throughout the
year as an evening tour with a pub supper. Call us on
0845 812 5000 or see our website for more details.
