a market-town than central London. Few tourists find their way
here. This is ours. Lots of choice for lunch and beautiful shops
including Daunts Bookshop - Edwardian oak panelled galleries
and balconies like the library of a gentleman’s club and yet
welcoming to browsers (and ladies!).
After lunch a short coach transfer to our final district for today’s
explorations. The Crown Estate has just spent a mighty £1 billion
revamping Regents Street creating a handsome new pedestrian
quarter. Enjoy the wonderful world of Hamleys or sample what
for many is London’s most beautiful shop. Built from the timbers
of two old ships Libertys was the retail end of the Art Nouveau
and Arts & Crafts movements where the Pre-Raphaelites came to
shop here in the wood panelled rooms and the Eastern Bazaar.
It’s quite magical at Christmas time. We end up on Carnaby
Street, the sort of place, said George Melly, that even if you
came to buy a tie they measured your inside leg!
Head home at 4.45pm. From 20 Nov to 6 Jan add a 60-minute
whirl through the Christmas Lights at no extra cost or start your
day with lunch at noon, and enjoy the shopping tour plus a full
tour of the Christmas Lights & Sights and head home at 7.00pm.
Variable walking to suit. Available daily all year.

For a long lunch and shopping break we set down in
Marylebone outside The Wallace Collection built by a
Marquess to house his art collection. If you have any
members who really don't want to walk very far at all
they could spend the lunch break right here and see some
of the vast collection which includes the Laughing
Cavalier, some beautiful Sevres porcelain and endless
suits of armour. It’s free to enter and has an elegant
restaurant which is far from free - you can have Quiche
Lorraine with salad for £8.50 but if you add a hot drink
and service it’s probably £12.00 minimum to dine here.
Bit pricey then but quite a treat in elegant surroundings
reminiscent of the Palm Court at the Waldorf hotel. From
where we set down it’s only a short walk to Selfridges
on Oxford Street but
far less busy and close to hand is
Marylebone High Street - so laid-back it feels more like
