Our flagship Diamond Jubilee tours Coronations
& Celebrations are well under way with more
people visiting Westminster Abbey with us
between last October and the end of February
than have in the past twenty years! The interest
in seeing the nation’s church is incredible – and
our guides are delighted as it is such a marvellous
place to guide.
Coronations & Celebrations follows the life story
of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II from “humble
beginnings” in London’s Mayfair where she
enjoyed incognito walks with her governess
Crawfie and sister Margaret, through to the
tumultuous year when her beloved “Grandpa
England” died, her Uncle David abdicated and the
Yorks found themselves moving into Buckingham
Palace. The day also includes a tour of
Westminster Abbey scene of every coronation
since 1066 and also the venue for the celebration
of 16 royal weddings.
We recommend booking this tour outside of the
main tourist season where possible as the Abbey
atmosphere is best captured when there are
fewer visitors around. This year that would mean
coming from the middle of September onwards
when in the immediate aftermath of the London
Olympics the capital is predicted to be unusually
quiet.
The tour is available right through until the
end of 2013 at the current advertised price of
£25.00 per person. It’s an ideal choice for the
colder months. You could come between
12 and 20 November in either 2012 or 2013
to see the moving Field of Remembrance that
is set up on the lawns in front of the Abbey.
Also do remember that although Her Majesty
became Queen in 1952 it took a full year to
organise the coronation so 2013 will mark 50
years since that great event
.
Coronations & Celebrations is without doubt a
pricey day - it is now £17.50 just to walk off the
street into the Abbey and the Dean’s Rules
stipulate two Blue Badge Guides as a
mandatory condition for all visiting groups which
of course bumps up the overall cost.
So if you like the Queen’s life story part of this
tour and would like to include a day out to mark
the Diamond Jubilee in your group’s
programme but you have been to the Abbey
before or you would prefer a Diamond Jubilee
day at a lower cost please turn over to read
about two other day trip options that include
the Queen’s life story part of the day but not
the Westminster Abbey tour.
