Charlie Burrell says that there is no specific goal:
It’s just a grand experiment and if it hasn’t worked
within the next 15 years when my children are due
to take over, then the whole thing could be grubbed
up with modern machinery pretty damn quick. But
I think it will work and it’s important that it should.
As for whether my children will want to take on
this madcap project… well, they’ve been
conditioned to it. They think it’s perfectly normal
for dad to be chasing the pigs!
You can stay in the heart of the Knepp Wildland
glamping style in an old shepherd’s hut camp or
a luxury safari tent or pitch your own tent in the
wildflower meadow. There are African bush style
safaris available to campers and day visitors with
the estate ecologist in typical small safari style trucks
and jeeps with stops at tree platforms along the way.
See more about the camping and safaris at
.
As part of our new day
Sussex & The Prairie
Garden
(page 65 of the 2016 brochure or click here)
we’ll take your coach on an exciting and exclusive
little taster tour through the Knepp Castle Estate.
Penny the ecologist will hop on the coach as we
drive in on one side to tell your group all about this
exciting experiment. You’ll see the castle and the
safari camp and a snippet of the rewilding project
before emerging on the far side of the estate to carry
on with our exploration of the Adur Valley and take
a look at Jonathan Creek’s windmill! It’s a super
new day that also visits the unique Prairie Garden
where not only are there no Keep Off The Grass
signs but you are invited to walk through the
magnificent and massive flower borders.
We also stop at attractive and compact old Steyning
where the Garlic Wood Butchers sell prime grass fed
beef from the Knepp Castle estate so it’s a definite
bring a chiller box sort of day. Marvellous stuff.
