the history of the Palace which was built by Cardinal
Wolsely who was forced to hand it over lock, stock
and barrel to Henry VIII when he fell out of the
Royal favour. A century later William III embarked
on a massive enlargement of the palace aiming to
create a worthy rival to the Palace of Versailles.
It has left us with a Palace part Tudor, part Baroque
and altogether quite wonderful.
In all honesty you could spend a week here and still
not see everything so you will be pleased to get to
the very heart of Hampton Court in the company
of our knowledgeable guide as we tour the most
important rooms and pick out the highlights for you
.
At lunchtime you can take a peek in the landscaped
gardens before meeting up for an afternoon that will
see your group divided into two halves. Each group
will visit
The Secrets of The Royal Bedchamber
exhibition which also offers a chance to view architect
John Vanbrugh’s Prince of Wales’s Apartments –
opened for the first time in 20 years. Each group will
also be taken on a short guided of some of the smaller
and more intimate Palace rooms, or have time to see
the Tudor kitchens - each to their own. Following time
to buy tea you’ll be heading home by 5.00pm.
This tour is available daily until 3 November 2013.
The Palace can get very busy at the weekend and
during the Summer school holidays so where possible
come weekdays during term time. The tour is not
available during the crazy days of the RHS Hampton
Court Palace Flower Show, which this year is from
9-13 July.
In terms of walking this is a comfy shoes day as you’ll
be on your feet a fair bit but we’ll aim to keep the
overall walking within comfortable limits building in
opportunities to sit down whenever possible. On our
Olympic running track scale this day rates between 3
and 4 meaning between minimum walking of 1200 and
1600 yards spread out through the day.
Adults: £24.75 Seniors: £22.50
The price includes admission to Hampton Court Palace
and the Secrets of the Royal Bedchamber exhibition.
